Two years later

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? And a lot has changed. So what gives? Why did I stop publishing the podcasts? What’s next? What have I been up to over the last couple of years?

What happened with the podcasts?

JLo. And by that I mean, I got a take-down request for one of her songs in a Pride mix (from 2012!). I tried to argue that using songs in mixes could be considered Fair Use but there was no chance I was going to win that fight. In the end, it was safer to stop publishing them rather than get into trouble with the RIAA.

I miss doing them and people occasionally still ask me about them. I could have transitioned to something like Mixcloud or Soundcloud, but I always preferred having them on my own server and publishing them myself. Some of the hosted services do very strange things like inserting ads or not allowing you play them in the way you want to.

It’s a shame and in a way, it was the closing of the door on my time as a DJ. Even if in the last eleven years, that door had only been ajar.

What’s next?

I’m going to use this site to go back to a traditional blog, occasionally peppered with photographs of things I find interesting. I’ve been enjoying experimenting with and learning more about photography over the last few years. It’s scratching that creative itch that the podcasts previously filled.

What have you been up to?

Apart from the global pandemic, things have been pretty good. I just celebrated three years living in New York. I’m still having a great time here, both professionally and personally. I’ve built up a nice group of friends and have been enjoying exploring the city and more of the US and North America as things returned to a kind of normal. Expect to see some pictures of my travels from time-to-time.

As always, if you want to keep in touch or follow more regular updates, you can follow me on Instagram or Twitter.

It’s good to be back. See you soon!
